Kim Elton
Who Am I?

Elton Is The Chairman Of Alaska’s Legislative Council. “Sen. John Cowdery, who is under indictment for federal bribery charges, has resigned as chairman of the Legislative Council. He has not, however, stepped down from the Senate. Cowdery, R-Anchorage, notified Senate President Lyda Green, R-Wasilla of his decision in a letter on Monday. On Tuesday, Green appointed Sen. Kim Elton, D-Juneau, who is a member of the Senate majority made up of six Republicans and nine Democrats.” (Steve Quinn, “Sen. Cowdery Resigns Post On Oversight Council,” The Associated Press, 7/23/08)

As Chairman Of The Legislative Council, Elton Said He Would Be The One Who Signs The Contract Of The Person Hired To Investigate The Monegan Dismissal. “Council members on Monday confirmed Sen. Kim Elton, D-Juneau, as the new chairman, and he said he'll be the one who signs the contract with the person hired to do the Monegan investigation.” (Wesley Loy, “Hired Help Will Probe Monegan Dismissal,” Anchorage[AK] Daily News, 7/29/08)

Elton Turned Down The Request Of Alaskan Republican Rep. John Coghill To Have Hollis French Replaced As The Overseer Of The Monegan Investigation. “Democratic Sen. Hollis French was accused of manipulating the probe for political effect on national and state elections. Republican Rep. John Coghill last week asked the Alaska Legislature's Legislative Council, the body that appointed French to oversee the investigation, to discuss replacing French. Coghill said he believed the investigation was lacking in fairness, neutrality and due process after French was quoted in media reports that the probe's results were going to be an ‘October surprise’ that is ‘likely to be damaging to the administration.’ On Monday, Democratic Sen. Kim Elton, the head of the Legislative Council, turned down his request.” (Matt Volz, “Alaska Senator To Retain Oversight Of Palin Probe,” The Associated Press, 9/8/08)

“French's Decisions To Date Have Been Appropriate, Bipartisan And Unchallenged, Elton Wrote To Coghill. And The Comments French Made Were ‘Corrected In A Very Public Way In The Media,’ Elton Wrote.” (Matt Volz, “Alaska Senator To Retain Oversight Of Palin Probe,” The Associated Press, 9/8/08)
